Below is Yvettes house. She lives here with her older brother Ivan, and another brother and his wife.
My friend Meghan (who came to visit in July) donated money (with the help of some of her friends from Ontario) to help Yvette and her brothers get a new roof and cement the inside of her home!! I hope to get an updated picture of her home before we leave!
Mark and Valance on the bunkbed Mark made for him!
The Orphanage. It was great to have Evelyn and Ian there to meet everyone and help make necklaces and bracelets.
A neat stop on the way up to the Kiziba refugee camp. It's a 3 hour drive from Kigali. (one of the most beautiful drives we have ever been on)
A stretcher in the hospital at the Refugee Camp.
An organization within the camp, Jeunesse Chretienne Mission (JCM). JCM works with youth and raises money by running a cell phone charging booth, as well as a hair salon. There is no electricity in the camp, so people will pay around .30 cents Canadian to get their cell phone charged and .50 cents to get a hair cut. A few years ago International Teams donated a generator so that JCM could start these businesses.
After a busy week in Rwanda with Mark's parents the four of us went to Kenya (Mombasa) for a relaxing 4 days. When Ian and Evelyn headed back to Ontario, Mark and I headed to Malindi for a week by ourselves.
Tsavo East Safari!!! We had an amazing day. Saw so many different animals. The Lions, Cheetahs and Elephants were our favorites!
We stopped off at a Masai Village in Mombasa. The Masai continue to live traditionally. They are nomadic and live off of the cattle the own. They move as they need to in order to allow their cattle to continue to graze.
